Paradip Port Observes “No Vehicle Day” to Reduce Pollution

In a bid to curb pollution, reduce usage of carbon fuel and spread awareness about clean environment, ‘No Vehicle Day’ was observed by Paradip Port Trust (PPT) on 28 February 2018.

There was very less traffic, less pollution and less noise on the roads in the PPT Township. Walking and Cycle riding by PPT officials and employees were seen on the roads. Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT, led from the front by walking to the office all the way from his official quarters. The basic objective is to create awareness among the public and also reduce the traffic congestion and enable PPT officers and employees to play active role in controlling the global warming.

Not only PPT officials and employees, but also the Port Users gave their two and four-wheelers a miss for the day and opted for walk / bicycles instead. Officials & staff of M/s. Chennai Radha along with officials and employees of MCHP, PPT organised a rally in the morning to emphasize the importance of reduction of use of motor vehicles on the road to reduce pollution, which covered a distance from the Officers’ Club Square to their worksite inside the Harbour.

The rally was flagged off by Shri N. Vaiyapuri, Dy. Chairman, PPT. HODs of PPT after coming to their offices, planted saplings inside the Administrative Building premises. Speech and Slogan Competitions were held among the officers and employees and the winners were awarded by Chairman, PPT.

 Swachh Bharat Awards were also given to local organisations, PPT Officers and Sections for the month.

All denizens have lauded the efforts undertaken by PPT and some of them even voluntarily supported the drive and participated by using bicycles.
