Paradip Port, NIOT Sign MoU for Developing Odisha’s First Desalination Plant

The first State-of-the-Art 10 MLD (Million Litres per day) Desalination Plant in Odisha will be commissioned at Paradip Port.

An MoU regarding consulting services was signed between PPT & NIOT (National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai, under Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India) on 15 July 2019. The MoU was signed between Shri K Ramachandra Rao, Chief Engineer, PPT & Shri MV Ramana Murthy, Project Director, NIOT.

As per the MoU, SWRO (Sea-water Reverse Osmosis) water will be available in PPT Township. Tender for the project is likely to be floated this year.

According to a media statement, the project will supplement the drinking water needs during the summer season in the Port Township. This first of its kind drinking water venture in the state by PPT is a landmark project. The capital cost of the project is around Rs. 116 Cr.
