NDRF Conducts Mock Drill on Tsunami at Chennai Port

A mock drill was conducted on Tsunami in Chennai Port Trust on 19.6.2019 by NDRF in association with CISF, Chennai Port Fire Service, Chennai Port Hospital, CITPL and Tamil Nadu Police personnel.

Tsunami awareness was raised at 0945 hrs and accordingly all department staff were alerted and evacuation of the Centenary Building and Old Administrative Building of Chennai Port started at 1045 hrs administering rescue techniques and rope rescue was conducted by NDRF. An exhibition of rescue equipments, communication equipments and flood water rescue equipments were displayed and demonstrated by NDRF personnel to the officers and staff of Chennai Port to create awareness about the management and service provided by NDRF in times of disaster.

A training session was also conducted for CISF and Port Fire Service Personnel in various rescue techniques. Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Heads of Departments have attended the various rescue operations shown by NDRF and appreciated the role of NDRF for the relief and rescue measures.

About 35 nos. of Port fire service personnel, 52 CISF personnel, 600 Port staff, 10 CITPL personnel, 3 local police personnel, totaling 710 personnel have witnessed the events.
