Mumbai Port Hosts Maritime Awareness Exhibition

‘Samudra Kshitij,’ a maritime awareness exhibition organized by Bhandarkar Publication and supported by Mumbai Port Trust, Director General of Shipping and Sagarmala, was held on 12- 13 December 2019 in Mumbai.

Smt. Kishori Pednekar, Mayor of Mumbai, and the chief guest of the event, inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Shri Sanjay Bhatia, IAS, Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust.

According to a media statement from the port authority, a huge crowd of approximately 4500 students from various schools in and around Mumbai visited the exhibition on 12 December 2019.

The initiative was supported by Shri Rajendra Ahire, Deputy Director of Education, by communicating the information to schools. Mayor Smt. Kishori Pednekar motivated the children to look at the maritime industry as a lucrative career option.

Shri Sanjay Bhatia, IAS, Chairman, MbPT suggested that MbPT in coordination with municipal school would explore the option of having municipal school children to visit a cruise ship to personally see a slice of the shipping and hospitality industry.

Dr. Kurush Dalal, a famous Historian, spoke about the connection of Mumbai to maritime tradition of India.

in his vote of thanks, Capt. Vivek Bhandarkar said that the aim of the maritime exhibition was to spread awareness of the rich maritime history and culture to introduce to young generation the Government Initiatives to promote coastal shipping and cruise shipping.

This event brought along 16 Maritime Associations together. The visitors were excited and happy to know and understand the shipping world.
