Mormugao Port Welcomes Inaugural Visit of Domestic Cruise Liner

Port Wings News Network:

The arrival of the luxury cruise liner Angriya at Mormugao Port on 21 October marked the beginning of a new chapter in domestic cruise tourism in India. The domestic cruise sector is poised to grow at a steady pace in the coming months, and the state of Goa stands to benefit from domestic cruise tourism. Being a tourism state, Goa has a great potential for the growth of this luxury cruise sector in the country.

The inaugural visit of cruise ship ANGRIYA brought around 200 guests to the state from Mumbai Port. The ship was given a befitting welcome at the MPT’s cruise terminal with the Chairman In-charge Shri G.P. Rai, personally welcoming the Master of the ship Capt. Dondh  and Shri Thakur with floral bouquets along with his Heads of Department, Capt. Manoj Josh Dy. Conservator,  Shri Jerome Clement Traffic Manager (i/c), Shri S.K.S. Hegde, Chief Mechanical Engineer (i/c). The Chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council Shri Kritesh Gaokar was also present at the cruise terminal during the welcome ceremony.

The Directorate of Tourism, Government of Goa,  had organized a lively  cultural programme displaying Goan folk dances and cultural pageantry to extend a traditional welcome  to the guests on arrival at the cruise terminal. A Brass Band ‘Symphony’ was also in attendance at the cruise terminal to blend the inaugural visit of the luxury cruise ship with perfect musical harmony.

Expressing his happiness on the inaugural visit of the domestic cruise ship  after a long wait, Shri G.P. Rai Chairman In-charge MPT stated that this sector is poised for growth in the near future. More stakeholders in the domestic cruise lines have expressed their willingness to start luxury domestic cruises on this circuit in the coming months. Goa may see few more domestic cruise liners making regular visits to Mormugao in the future thereby giving a bigger boost to luxury cruise tourism in the state.

The logistics and other ground arrangements for the maiden visit of the domestic cruise  was handled efficiently  by M/s. Ben Line Agencies in close collaboration with the Mormugao Port Management. The cruise ship is scheduled to make regular visits to Goa from Mumbai from this week.
