Mormugao Port Cleans Baina Beach Under ‘Swachchta Hi Seva’ Campaign

Shri G.P. Rai, Chairman (i/c) MPT, led from the front along with Heads of Departments, officers, staff, employees and CISF personnel  of MPT in the cleanliness drive undertaken at  the Baina beach on  18th September, in the morning. Around 250 enthusiastic volunteers divided into groups cleaned the 2 kms beach front as part of the ‘Swachchta Hi Seva’ campaign. The beach stretch which was littered with garbage, plastics bags, pet bottles, tetra packs,  fire cracker remains, as well as other  material was swept clean giving the entire place a clean and hygienic look.

The project clean up was carried out under the direct supervision of Shri G. R. Gani, Superintending Engineer and Nodal Officer Swachchta Hi Seva Campaign at MPT. The cleanliness drive was well planned and the team was fully equipped with all the required infra for systematic disposal of the garbage.

The Chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council, Smt. Bhavana Nanoskar, and MMC Ward Councilor Sandesh Mesta were also present during the cleanliness drive and they appreciated the initiative of the Port Management in carrying out the cleanliness drive at the Baina Beach. The Chairman (i/c) Shri Rai said that such cleanliness drives as well as awareness programmes among the citizens should be a continuous process and extended support to the MMC Chairperson in their Swachchta initiatives for the Port town.

The locals who watched the cleanliness campaign undertaken by the Mormugao Port Administration in going beyond their call of duty and reaching out to support a social cause and leading by example in keeping the environment clean were impressed with the initiative.

Such cleanliness and awareness drives will continue in the neighbourhood of the Port beyond the Swachchata Campaign period, so as to bring about an awareness and inculcate the habit of cleanliness amongst the citizens of Vasco and achieve the goal of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of having a clean, green  and healthy environment.
