MANSA Aggrieved Over JNPT’s Restriction on Entry -Exit for Users

Port users at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), a leading container handling port located near Mumbai, have raised discontent over the newly introduced permit systems for entry and exit at the port with steep restrictions.

As per the circular issued by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to port users, they would stop issuing temporary permits more than three times to the same individual.

Further, it is now believed that JNPT Officers have now refused to give more than two dock entry permits for longer duration per ship operator leading to undue hardship to users, a letter addressed to the chairman of JNPT by Mumbai and Nhava Sheva Ship Agents Association (MANSA) said.

“The step taken by JNPT Officials would increase the avoidable multiplication of work and undesirable frequent contact of the Officials with the public/trade which may not be in consonance with the Ease of Doing Business in Port.  There is a need for simplification and transparency,” the letter said.

Globally, security at ports are maintained with alertness and vigilance through CCTV coverage and not by closing the access to port users, the letter said.

CISF in its letter had said that in view of security scenario and for better security of port property and operation, is has been decided to strictly enforce provisions of Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) for renewal of short term passes.
