Kongu Global Forum

Kongu Global Forum is an association of socially responsible representatives from seven districts comprising of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur, Nilgris, Salem, Erode and Namakkal formed during March 2017. This Forum was started by a team of thirteen likeminded individuals to develop overall economy of the seven districts which are known for engineering and textiles from Coimbatore apparels from Tiruppur, agricultural & processed food & leather products from Erode, Steel from Salem, home textiles from Karur, poultry products from Namakkal and tourism from Ooty and Yercaud.

IMPROVING AIR CONNECTIVITY TO KONGU REGION

The forum felt the need to improve the air connectivity, in addition to others, for Coimbatore Air Port domestically and internationally for the benefit of businessmen, travellers and cargo movements. The businessmen and travellers belonging to this region have to travel either to Kochi or Trichy by road or  transit through Bangalore or Chennai or Mumbai or New Delhi for their international destinations. Coimbatore though connected domestically with that of other few cities in India, the frequency of services, keep on increasing year by year, are not in proportion to the movements of passengers and cargo.

Coimbatore being the largest second city in our state known for textiles, industries, commerce, education, information technology, health care and manufacturing is poorly connected internationally by air. Therefore, Kongu Global Forum has been making sincere efforts with the Air Ports Authority of India and Aviation ministry to provide more flight services from Coimbatore both domestically and internationally for the development of various businesses in this region which contributes 60% to the overall GDP of the state

The Forum has a chart of demands including the ones like direct flight from Coimbatore in the morning to New Delhi and vice versa in the afternoon, one stop flight to Pune via Chennai and Vijayawada and to increase the services of existing Hyderabad flight from Coimbatore on daily basis.

Kongu Global Forum is continuously lobbying with the state and central governments for the expansion and modernisation of the Coimbatore airport to facilitate higher air connectivity resulting in higher passenger and cargo movements.

In a statement, KGF stated that they sincerely believe with support of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi Palanisamy and the minister for municipal administration and rural development , Mr. S.P. Velumani, it will become a reality in near future.

Kongu Global Forum will actively engage in addressing the critical needs of the business community and public at large for the development and prosperity of the kongu region. This forum will take up serious steps for industrial development of the region through state and central government support and promote  marketing committee to help the farming community to get better prices for their produce. The next major initiative will be joining hand with ‘ Siruthuli “ for effective water management by means desilting waterbodies, rain water harvesting, creating new waterbodies and maintenance of existing waterbodies in Coimbatore. Also join hands with “ Vanathukkul Tiruppur “ for creating and maintaining greenbelt by means of planting lakhs of trees in Tiruppur.
