Kamarajar Port New Frontier in Promoting Indian International Trade: CMD Sunil Paliwal

Kamarajar Port opened the new frontier in promoting Indian International trade, Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS., Chairman cum Managing Director, Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), has said.

While addressing the gathering during 71st Republic Day celebration on 26 January 2020 at the port, Shri Sunil Paliwal said, “The port which was looked upon initially mono commodity Coal Port with a capacity of 12 MTPA to serve the interest of Tamilnadu Electricity Board has over a period developed as a Multi Cargo Port, with a capacity of 70 MTPA.”

Sunil Paliwal stated: “Port as of now, is handling Containers, Dry/Liquid bulk, Automobiles, LNG, General Cargo and Project Cargo, and capable of serving various needs of the EXIM Trade. Port has handled cargo throughput of 23.42 million metric tones and the Operating income is around Rs.510 crores for the 3rd quarter ending Dec 2019.”


Sunil Paliwal stated: “A new feeder service between Kamarajar Port Ltd and Colombo has been commenced at KPL Container Terminal (AECTPL) by the shipping line M/s. CMA CGM during December 2019. Recently, Kamarajar Port has obtained the CRZ Clearance from Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change for the project ‘Doubling of southern rail connectivity from Holding Yard No.1 to Container Terminal Railyard,’. The total length of the doubling is 2.65 km.”


Sunil Paliwal stated: “Considering the request of Tamilnadu Electricity board, Port has constructed additional two Coal Berths of each 9 MTPA capacity. These berths will feed the coal for expansion of existing and new Thermal Power Plants of TANGEDCO and their Joint ventures. Erection of top unloading facilities is in progress. Formal Agreements has been signed with TNEB regarding utilization of CB-3 & CB-4. Considering the increasing road traffic movement of import / export of cargoes, Port is executing the Southern port access road (Road widening from 2 lane to 4 lane) from Vallur to Port Main Gate at a cost of Rs.195 Cr through TNRDC. The work between NCTPS Junction & KPL main gate is underway and is expected to be completed by May 2020.”


Sunil Paliwal stated: “Kamarajar Port as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility is undertaking a lot of developmental work in the neighborhood villages and identified projects towards “Health and Nutrition” in the aspirational district of Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Kamarajar Port has contributed funds for executing infrastructure development works under CSR and Sustainability initiatives through District Administration, Tiruvallur, imparted skill development training in various trades for livelihood enhancement of residents of local villages and contributed funds to “Swatch Bharath Kosh.”
