Tuticorin Container Freight Station Association on 18 September 2019 received the International Trade Facilitation Innovation Award for successful implementation of CoDEx at VOC Port in the 9th Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum 2019 held at New Delhi.
Shri David Raja, President, Tuticorin CFS Association received the award from Mr. Shri Rajneesh, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Chidambaranar Port Trust, in his message conveyed that “ VOC Port is witnessing a phenomenal surge of in Container Traffic and with the game-changing ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiative that CoDEX has enabled through seamless flow of Digital information, VOC Port is witnessing smoother and faster terminal operations, reduced dwell time of container trucks, reduced gate congestion, reduced vehicle pollution and has eliminated repetitive paper works”.
The Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum (APTFF) is a leading regional platform for the exchange of information, experiences and practice on trade facilitation. The 9th Asia pacific Trade Facilitation Forum 2019 was organized at New Delhi from 17th and 18th September 2019 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and partners including United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Customs Organization (WCO) and World Trade Organization (WTO).
The codex (Container Digital Exchange system) is a digital platform developed to enable seamless movement of containers from Container freight stations / ICDs to VOC Port is being used by V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Customs, Mainline operators, Exporter, Container Freight Stations, International Container Depot (ICD) and Container Terminals of VOC Port. The system works on online real-time data getting uploaded in a digital platform which is made accessible to all the concerned uses and the container movement can be tracked and authenticated at various points on its way to the Port by the means of unique barcode attached to each container and corresponding shipping document. The bar-coded pass helps to track the movement of shipment right from the port entry to shipment loading point for exports.
IGST refund process has been streamlined after the CODEX implementation. After implementation of CODEX, the process of cross checking EGM with manual record has been eliminated with the CODEX digitalised format, which resulted in speedy sanction of IGST refund to exporters. The application has also been made available in a mobile app form to enable on-the-go tracking of real-time container information availability a reality for all the stakeholders.
