Chidambaranar Port Handles Ship With 14.20 metre draft

Today on 11.02.2019, V.O. Chidambaranar Port, for the first time in Port’s history handled a vessel with 14.20Metredraft, after declaring of such draft at Berth-8 (Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal) and Berth- No.9 by the Port on 31.12.2018.

The vessel ‘MV SFAKIA WAVE’ was docked at the Berth No-9 at 1650 Hrs. The Cyprus flagged vessel ‘MV SFAKIA WAVE ’ with Length of 229 metres and beam of 36.80metres arrived from the Port of Mina Saqr, United Arab Emirates (UAE) with 84,502 Tonnes of Lime Stone destined for Eastern Bulk Trading, Chennai. The Shipping Agents for the vessel is Seaport Shipping, Tuticorin and Stevedore Agent is Seaport Logistics, Tuticorin.

Earlier on 28.11.2018, the Port had handled MV BOTTIGLIERI GIOGIO AVINO, with parcel size of 82,170 Tonnes and draft of 14.00 metres.

Shri T.K. Ramachandran, IAS., Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port thanked the entire team as well as M/s. Seaport Shipping, Tuticorin which brought the first vessel with 14.20metre draft to the Port and stated that, ‘With the developmental projects on the horizon, this record parcel size vessel calling the Port will be a game changer to the Port to handle more cargo and the trade to reap the benefit of ‘Economics of Scale’ in handling Coal, Lime Stone, Rock Phosphate and other Bulk cargo’. He further added that handling of 14.20 metre draft vessels at VOC Port would give Fillip to the prospective stakeholders involved in dry bulk and Containers vessels. He also stated that VOC Port’s ability to handle ships of higher draft will help it to become a transshipment hub in the near future.
