Chidambaranar Port Commissions Mobile Tyred Electrically Operated Hoppers

Today on 14.03.2018,

The Mobile Rubber Tyred Electrically Operated Hoppers were commissioned at the inaugural ceremony held at the VOC wharf on 14 March 2018. The project was inaugurated by Shri I. Jeyakumar, IRTS, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, in the presence of Shri S. Natarajan, Deputy Chairman and Shri M.S. Saifuddin, Managing Director, M/s. Seaport Logistics Pvt., Ltd., and Capt. K. Balachandran, Managing Director, Seaport Shipping Private Limited.

The project for Design, Supply, Installation and Maintenance of 8 Nos. of Mobile Rubber Tyred Electrically Operated Hopper was awarded to  M/s. Seapol Shipping Private Limited, Chennai on Revenue Share Basis. The Licensee had executed the project at a cost of Rs. 38.08 crores and would offer the Port a revenue share of 22.88% on the tariff of Rs.16.21 / Metric Tonne for Foreign going vessels and Rs.9.73 / Metric Tonne for Coastal vessels to be collected on dusty cargo.

The electrically driven hoppers would facilitate mechanism to suppression of dust during the grab discharge operations. The hoppers would be operated at VOC Berths-III & IV for handling bulk cargoes like Copper Concentrate, Coal, Sulphur, Rock Phosphate, Lime Stone, Gypsum, Fertilizers and ilmenite etc.,

Shri I. Jeyakumar, IRTS, while addressing the gathering stated that “The objective is to introduce innovative solutions that increase efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of bulk ship operations while the same being both technically and economically feasible”.

The inaugural function was graced by Shri U. Rajendran, Traffic Manager, Capt. Bhabatosh Chand, Deputy Conservator, Shri N. Varadarajan, Assistant Director, Dock Safety,  Senior Executives of the Port and Port users.
