Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin under ‘Ease of Doing Business’.

The MoU was signed on behalf of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust by  Shri T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Chairman and on behalf of Central Warehousing Corporation by Shri Arun Kumar Shrivastava,Managing Director, Central Warehousing Corporation in the presence of Shri. N. Vaiyapuri, Deputy Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust and other senior officials of V.O. Chidambaranar Port and Central Warehousing Corporation at the Administrative Offices of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin.

On signing of the MoU, Central Warehousing Corporation would make use of the 18,357 sqm area earmarked in the Truck Parking Terminal located opposite to Fisheries College, Tuticorin for operating and managing the DPE facility for 30 years on Annual Lease Rental basis.

The Direct Port Entry (DPE) facility would enable direct movement of containers from factories without intermediate handling requirement at any Container Freight Station thus facilitating the shippers to gate-in their factory-stuffed goods directly to the Container Terminal on 24 x 7 basis.

At present, the factory stuffed (self-sealed) containers are taken to 15 Container Freight Stations (CFSs) and one ICD operated in Tuticorin. All the CFSs operate during the day time from 10 AM to 5 PM with extended time upto 8 PM on working days. Only one CFS operated by CONCOR has 24×7 service. Hence, with this DPE facility made available by the Port at the Truck Parking Terminal, the export clearance of factory stuffed e-sealed containers will be faster and the time & cost incurred will get reduced.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust stated that “the Direct Port Entry facility would benefit the Exporters by speeding up the flow of cargo across various logistics service providers, decrease the logistics cost and reduce the dwell time of Export container”. The Central Warehousing Corporation, having domain knowledge and expertise in the field of Operations and management of cargo terminals is expected to provide efficient service to the exporters at reasonable cost.

Shri Arun Kumar Shrivastava,Managing Director, Central Warehousing Corporation stated that “Central Warehousing Corporation, a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India is optimistic to take up the DPE service for the benefit of the trade using V.O.
