Chennai Port Emerges Victorious in All India Major Sports Carrom and Chess Tournament

Players from Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) have emerged victorious in the All India Major Sports Carrom and Chess Tournament organized by Kamarajar Port Limited from 29 to 31 January at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.

In Carron “Team Championship”, Chennai Port emerged victorious by beating Mumbai Port Trust. Visakhapatnam Port Trust garnered third place. In “Individual Championship” Shri D.Narayana Rao of Chennai Port adjudged as winner by beating Shri Paritam Tambe of Mumbai Port. Third prize was received by Shri. S. Rajkumar of Chennai Port.

In Chess Team Championship, Chennai Port Trust emerged victorious be beating Deendayal Port Trust (Kandla Port). Players from Mumbai Port Trust remained at third place. In Individual Championship, Shri Kiran S.Chopdekar of Mormugao Port won the finals by beating Shri. Vinod M. Khodiyar of Deendayal Port. Shri Bhimappa S.Harijjan of Mormugao Port received third place in the individual championship.

It may be noted that  Kamarajar Port Limited is conducting this kind of sport event for the sixth time since its inception 2001.

Out of 12 Major Ports in the country, 10 Major Ports viz. Chennai Port Trust, Deendayal Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Kamarajar Port Limited, Mumbai Port Trust, Mormugao Port Trust, New Mangalore Port Trust, Paradip Port Trust, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust participated in the tournament.

The Chief Guest Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS., Chairman cum Managing Director, KPL, inaugurated the Tournament and declared the opening of the Tournament on 29 January 2020 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Shri K.Sellappan, General Secretary, KPSC delivered the welcome address.

The Valedictory function of the Carrom and Chess tournament held on 31st January, 2020. The chief guest Shri Dheeraj Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Youth Welfare & Sports Development Department spoke on that occasion and distributed the Trophy, medals & certificates to the winners of the tournament in the presence of Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS., Chairman cum Managing Director, KPL.
