RMYC’s association with the Navy goes prior to 1980’s when Commodore Harold Claudius an Officer in the Indian Navy nurtured the club and the sport of sailing at Chennai by encouraging student members to race.

In those days the fraternity was about 40 sailors and only 8 Boats.  The old club house of RMYC was inaugurated by Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Tahiliani in 1987.
