The Chennai Customs Brokers Association (CCBA) has conducted an awareness camp on 20 January 2018 at Rajaaji Salai on e-way bill.
It may be noted that during the 24th GST Council Meeting, held in New Delhi on 16 December2017, it has been decided on implementing a common e-way bill for the interstate movement of cargo as mandatory for all type of cargo movement with effect from 1 February 2018. The requirement of e-way bill for intra state movement of cargo will become mandatory from 1 June 2018.
With a view to educate the members, CCBA arranged for a detailed presentation by Mr Raja of soft link globalsolution and a live demo on registration and procedure on generating e way bill during the programme.
Mr Sathiathilagam, Deputy Commissioner of Commercial tax and other senior officials were also presented in the awareness camp. Mr S. Nataraja, President, CCBA, and Mr R.N. Sekar, Secretary, welcomed senior Officials of Commercial Tax and members from the trade.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Nataraja pointed out that though it is a responsibility of generating such e-way bill by the importers and exporters for the import and export cargo, the customs broker who are the pillars in between the customs and trade have the same responsibility on compliance of documentations which are required while dispatching the cargo after Customs Clearance.
CCBA is regularly conducting such Training Session to their members on various subjects. Mr Sekar emphasized about the need of such awareness among our fraternity and advised members to understand the legal implication on this e- way bill and impact of non-compliance as a Customs Brokers. He appealed to the members to make use of CCBA’s Training Session effectively. A large number of members from Customs Broker’s community were participated in the camp and sought clarification on various point of one way bills.
Official from Commercial Tax have given a detailed clarification on all queries and appealed to the members that come forward with detailed suggestions on the difficulties faced by customer broker community as government initiative to introduce this e-way bill trade friendly.
After the awareness camp, CCBA Office Bearers & EC Members had a detailed discussion with officials of Commercial Tax on the practical issues which will arise after implementation of e-way bill. Mr Sathiathilagam, Deputy Commissioner, advised CCBA to send a detailed representation highlighting the issues faced by CCBA community on e- way bill at all India Basis. CCBA Office Bearers and together EC members, coordinated with members for proper arrangements of this awareness camp.
