Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, a constitute college of Tamil Nadu Dr .J . Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam celebrated the 73rd Independence Day in a grand manner on 15 August 2019.
The students and staff of Fisheries College and Research Institute participated in the programme. The Dean Dr. P. Velayutham was escorted to the Dias by the Security Staff Commander and the Students’ Captain along with Dr.D.Natarajan, Asst. Director of Physical Education and the Sports Secretary Mr.F.Parthiban. A guard of honour was performed by the Security staff.
Dr. P. Velayutham, Dean i/c., unfurled the National Flag and the College Staff, Students and Security Personnel honoured the National flag.
Subsequently, Dean in his Independence Day address reminded the sacrifices of those great men and women who played pivotal roles in building the Independent India. He recalled the historical events of Indian Independence struggle right from the first war of Indian Independence and the rich heritage of India that make every Indian proud. He spoke about patriotism in present day context and reminded all to take the vision of our Prime Minister to work for a New India which would make our valiant freedom fighters proud.
Miss. I. Kaviyarasi and Miss. R. Mary Shibana, I Year students of B.F.Sc., delivered their speech on patriotism in Tamil and English respectively.
