71st Republic Day Celebrations in V.O.Chidambaranar Port

71st Republic Day has been celebrated by V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust in a grand manner at Port’s School ground at 08:00 hrs on 26 January 2020.

Shri T.K. Ramachandran, I.A.S., Chairman, unfurled the National flag and took salute from the contingent of CISF, Port Fire Service, Port Schools NCC children.  In his Republic Day message, Chairman Port Trust, recalled that the Parliamentary form of Government, as provided by the Constitution of India, aims to have a positive effect on the social and economic development of the Nation.

He also stated that the primary hinterland of V.O.Chidambaranar Port is all set to attract an array of industries from the ‘Tuticorin SPEEDZ’  (Smart Port Employment & Economic Development Zone) developed by  V.O. Chidambaranar Port, proposed Chennai Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor and  the Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Products manufacturing industries to be set up by Kuwait based firm at Tuticorin. To cope up with the requirements of the upcoming industries, the Port will augment the infrastructure by converting the Berth No.9 as Container Terminal, Dredge the approach channel, dock basin and water front of Berth No.9 to a draft of  14.50 metres, and facilitate  draft of 14.20 metres in the waterfront of North Cargo Berth-III.

While acknowledging the dedicated services, support and cooperation extended by the employees, Officers, Trade Unions, and Stakeholders for the growth achieved by V.O.Chidambaranar Port in the recent past, he sought the full-fledged support of Maritime community for fulfilling the Port’s vision to become a pioneer in providing quality and efficient cargo handling facility  in South India.

Shri T.K. Ramachandran, I.A.S., Chairman, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust released the Port’s Digital Newsletter ‘Korkai’ in the presence of the Heads of the Departments.

As the part of the celebration, Shri T.K. Ramachandran, I.A.S., Chairman, also distributed Meritorious Awards to the officers and staff of various Departments of Port.  Traffic Performance Awards for the year 2018-19 were also distributed by him for exemplary performance of Port users as Steamer Agents, Stevedores, Container Operators, Importers & Exporters and Business Partners.
