The 69th Republic Day has been celebrated by V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust in a grand manner at Port’s School ground on 26 January 2018.
Mr S. Natarajan, Deputy Chairman, unfurled the National flag and took salute from CISF, Port Fire Service, Maritime Training Institute Students, Port School NCC and Port School children.
In his Republic Day message, Chairman Port Trust, recalled that the Parliamentary form of Government, as provided by the Constitution of India, aims to have a positive effect on the social and economic development of the Nation.
He also stated that year 2018 has been a year of challenges for the World Shipping Industry and the Union Ministry of Shipping led the Indian Shipping Industry on the growth path by implementing various programmes under ‘Sagarmala’ which Envisages ‘Port led Development’ Model.
He also stated that V.O.Chidambaranar Port is also poised to augment the infrastructure by dredging the dock basin to facilitate depth of 15.60 metres and approach channel to a depth of 16.20 metres, widen the Port entrance channel from 153 metres to 230 metres and strengthening of VOC berths I to IV and Berth No.5 & 6 at an estimated cost of Rs.2820 crores. This massive project will add a capacity of nearly 30 Million Tonnes.
While acknowledging the dedicated services, support and cooperation extended by the employees, Officers, Trade Unions, and Stakeholders for the growth achieved by V.O.Chidambaranar Port in the recent past, he sought the full fledged support of Maritime community for fulfilling the Port’s vision to become a pioneer in providing quality and efficient cargo handling facility in South India.
Mr S. Natarajan, Deputy Chairman distributed meritorious awards to the officers and staff of various Departments of Port, CISF, Maritime Training Institute Student and School Children. The Port’s School children performed the Cultural programme.
