48th Safety Week Celebrated in Chidambaranar Port

48th Safety Week was celebrated in V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust from 04.03.2019 to 11.03.2019. Shri U. Rajendran, Traffic Manager, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust welcomed the gathering and presented the Annual Safety Report.

As a part of the celebrations, a weeklong activities were conducted from 04.03.2019 to 11.03.2019 to promote safety in the Port. A safety procession was conducted on 04.03.2019. Essay writing, Slogan writing and Drawing Competitions on Safety aspects were conducted for the Port employees, Harbour School Students & Port Users separately on 05.03.2019.

A one day safety awareness training proramme was conducted for Port and Port User’s drivers, cleaners and heavy / Cargo handling equipment’s operators on 06.03.2019. Safety awareness training programme was also conducted on 07.03.2019 for Port and stevedore’s executives.

During the safety week celebrations, one day road safety campaign was conducted on 08.03.2019 availing the services of the Port School Students Road Safety Patrol. During the campaign 3000 safety awareness pamphlets were issued to the Port road users and Head light dot stickers, Safety reflective stickers were pasted on two wheelers and heavy vehicles that crossed the Port’s Tollgate, Greengate, Zone -B  gate and Truck Parking Terminal.

Shri N. Vaiyapuri, Deputy Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, was Chief Guest in the valedictory function. The Deputy Chairman in his address, highlighted that Productivity and safety are closely interrelated and balancing these two priorities tends to enhance both, while letting either one triumph over the other will not only damage these efforts but also create collateral damage in other areas of the organization. He congratulated the Traffic Department for successfully conducting various programmes during the safety week celebration and requested the officers concerned and the stakeholders to direct all activities towards achieving the theme of this year for Safety Week celebration ie ‘Cultivate & sustain a safety culture for building nation’.

Shri N.Vaiyapuri, Deputy Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions.  On behalf of Safety week, 500 Saplings were distributed to the participants in the function to mark the Environment Safety also.

Felicitation were offered by Shri Nagamani Mishra, Assistant Director, Dock Safety, Shri P. Kathirvel, Trustee, VOC Port Trust, Shri R. Rusel, Trustee, VOC Port Trust, CaptBhabatosh Chand, Deputy Conservator and Shri K.Ravikumar, Chief Engineer, VOC Port Trust. The Valedictory function concluded with vote of thanks by ShriI. Arulraj, Safety Officer, VOC Port Trust.
